Falls Tour

The Victoria Falls is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world and is arguably the greatest waterfall in the world.  David Livingstone was the first European to visit the Falls and named it after Queen Victoria. The local name is perhaps more descriptive - Mosi oa Tunya (meaning the Smoke that Thunders). This spectacle occurs when the tranquil expanse of the Zambezi River plunges over a chasm 1708 metres wide and 103 metres deep, creating a shower of spray and a deafening noise. When in full flood (February to May), 550 million litres of water per minute, tumble over the Falls into a series of narrow gorges for approximately 8Km.  The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours, guided by a courier through the Rainforest along a 1.7Km ramble.  After a briefing and explanation of the Falls, the guide walks with the guests along the path, stopping at the numerous viewpoints to gaze at the Falls.

Clients will return to the Kingdom Hotel for Dinner. Overnight Kingdom Hotel on Full Board Basis.

Day 5
Clients will be picked up and transferred up stream of the Falls into Zambezi National Park for canoeing.

Canoeing

Here they will pick up there canoes for a leisurely mornings paddle down the Zambezi, enjoying the magnificent scenery of Africa’s fourth longest river. The opportunity will arise to view hippo in the river along with the numerous wildlife that comes to drink at the river banks.

Lunch at the Kingdom Hotel.

In the afternoon the clients will be picked up for an afternoon Elephant Back Safari.

Elephant Back Safari

An unusual excursion offered twice daily in the early morning or the late afternoon on a private estate near Victoria Falls.   This is an elephant experience rather than an elephant safari (although game and birdlife can be encountered while riding) and guests are encouraged to interact with the elephants and experience them close up as well as ride them through the African bush.  The excursion lasts 3-4 hours and begins with a 45 minutes transfer to the Estate followed by a debriefing and short training session where you can witness the bond between each elephant and his keeper.  Training is an integral part of the elephant’s life and the grooms are friendly and knowledgeable.  The elephants are then saddled and follow game trails led by an armed guide on foot.  Both the morning and afternoon excursions offer either a bush breakfast or sundowners and snacks respectively before the transfer back to your hotel.  You should wear long pants or jeans, a good hat and sensible walking shoes and there is a minimum age limit of 16 years.   This is a marvelous opportunity to learn about these proud animals and actually touch an African elephant.

After the Elephant Back Safari guests will return to the Kingdom Hotel for a quick shower before being picked up for an evening at the Boma Restaurant.

Boma Dinner

Is a cultural experience as well as a restaurant, situated in Gusu Bush near the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge.  The Menu specialises in a range of traditional Zimbabwean dishes as well as a barbeque buffet so everyone’s tastes are catered for but also with the chance to try local delicacies such as Mopani worms, game stews and traditional beer.  Shangaan dancers and singers entertain you and the Restaurant has its own sangoma - a traditional storyteller.  Join in the interactive drumming! The Restaurant is open from 7pm and dress is casual.  Pre-booking is necessary.

Overnight Kingdom Hotel on Lunch, Bed and Breakfast Basis

Day 6
After breakfast the group will be divided into smaller groups for a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, which is one of the most popular activities on offer besides the actual Tour of the Falls. The Flight of Angels can accommodate 16 to 22 people per hour depending on the helicopter being used, whether a four or six seats. The group can be divided into time slots, giving the remaining members in the group the opportunity to either relax at the hotel pool or explore the numerous curio shops in town for African artifacts.

Helicopter Flights

An ideal birds eye aerial view of the Zambezi River, the Falls and the Gorges by helicopter.  For a different perspective, view the Zambezi from the air in all its beauty as it flows to the Falls and plunges over the precipice, throwing up a cloud that sometimes reaches 300 metres high.  The excursion gives a better understanding of the zig zag gorge system and how it developed and ideally complements a ground tour of the Falls and Rainforest.  Please note that each helicopter has a middle seat and there is no guarantee of a window seat - it is on a first come, first serve basis. No age restriction but clients weighing more than 120kg will have to pay for 2 seats.

Return to the Kingdom Hotel for Lunch.

In the afternoon clients will be picked up for a Sundowner/Gala Dinner cruise on the Zambezi.

Sunset Cruises

The Zambezi River is the 4th largest in Africa after the Nile, Zaire and Niger respectively. The source is in North Western Zambia and flows approximately 2800km to its mouth in Mozambique into the warm Indian Ocean.  It is a wide, attractive River dotted with islands and sandbanks and the stretch of River preceding the Falls is bordered on the Zimbabwean side by the Zambezi National Park. The cruises are shaded and gently make their way upstream towards the National Park, usually accompanied by a brief talk about the River and its wildlife by your skipper. Relax and enjoy the riverine vegetation one of which is the Mulala Palm - a tall attractive palm tree that produces a vegetable ivory fruit that grows to the size of a cricket ball.   The bird life is excellent while you cruise past hippo and occasionally crocodile.  In the drier months, wildlife such as elephant and many antelope species can be seen grazing on the Riverbanks or swimming across to the smaller islands. The cruises last approximately 2 hours.

The Gala Dinner is an elegant three course affair with a variety of menu options and table settings will be served on the boat or on the shores of the Zambezi River, to the accompanying sound of the gentle lapping of the Zambezi, honking of hippo and the crystal clear Africa night sky.

Gala Dinner

An African band can be organized to play back round music, enhancing a truly memorable experience for the finale of this African safari. Overnight Kingdom Hotel on Lunch, Bed and Breakfast Basis

Day 7
